Got 90

Woot, woot!! Just snagged ARAM win #90 playing dearly beloved Ashe, making this a very fitting 90th blog post.

I don’t play Ashe much anymore. For some reason I rarely roll her in ARAM, but like many, she was my first champ and as you’ve seen in previous posts, I see her multiple times a day as she adorns the back of my smartphone.

Not a really special match per se. We had Lux, Soraka, Karthus and a fifth champion whose name totally escapes me. We were strong from the get go and in large part due to Karthus with good support from Soraka and Lux. I didn’t have a great match but did put together a mean Attack Speed build that was mowing folks down near the end. Watching her animation with 2+ attacks per second as we were taking down the nexus was quite pleasing (and a bit surreal).

So it’s 10 more wins and I have my gold in ARAM!!

Will This be Number 90?

Waiting in the queue now, killing time with a new post in the hope that this will be ARAM win #90. I’ve rolled Le Blanc and playing with Nunu, Tristana, Varus and Kassidin. We’re playing against Sivir, Graves, Kayle, Teemo and Jarvin. Gonna be super tough to get the 90th win here. Let’s see….

UPDATE: Nope, couldn’t pull it out. Hard fought for long time. It was 44 to 44 at the 20 minute mark and we had pushed further but we couldn’t hold it and they won at about 25 minutes. The good news is that this is my 89th blog post so I’ll save my 90th blog post for the 90th win, whenever it does happen.

Still Goin’ for Gold

Finally up to 85 ARAM wins and need another 15 for Gold, plus I have a gorgeous Plat badge for takedowns. Problem of late is that I have been seriously sidetracked by Magic 2014. But gonna get there….

Had a great time in my last match, which we unfortunately lost. I rolled Karma and I truly enjoyed playing her for the first time. She can be a real nuke with her ult up. I just have to remember to stay on top of the CD and use my W to chain and heal as needed. Her new default artwork is also gorgeous.

So many champions, so little time.

Gold Update

Playing lots of ARAM matches and have accrued another 15 wins since my last post for a total of 77. A few highlights of late include:

  • I had a zero death match with Sivir….yes folks, I never died, and no I wasn’t AFK and lounging on the platform and I was accruing my fair share of kills. It definitely elicited some awestruck comments from other players and was a very satisfying moment. It was quite hilarious to be running around with my starting boots and items.
  • I think I have finally gotten the hang of Syndra, that sphere-wielding temptress. For the longest time I just couldn’t play her at all, so am happy that I look forward to rolling her these days.
  • I rolled Riven several times and I personally LOVE her new ‘do and default artwork. Seriously…I am taking a picture to my stylist at my next appointment and am getting my hair just like that.

Fun, fun, fun….gonna feel like forever before I get the next 20+ wins but having a blast along the way.

Going for Gold

So my new goal in League is to reach Gold in ARAM. That means 100 wins and I am currently at 62. When I was at 25 for Silver, the idea of 100 seemed impossible. But ARAM matches aren’t long and I win as many or more than I lose so all good. We’ll see how long this takes….

Silver in ARAM

Just had a super fun match as Cassiopeia. I’ve rolled her a few times in ARAM of late and it is so, so, so much fun. Went 22/13/33. It would have been a rockin’ awesome out-of-this-world match for me had it been more like 22/6/33 or even 22/8/33. Not dying is almost as big a goal for me as kills. As long as I am out there doing damage, then I’m ok not getting fed. But I can’t complain…I rarely get over 20 kills in ARAM, so it was a real treat.

I’ve also been enjoying my Silver badges in ARAM. I realize that for all you Gold and Platinum and diamond-encrusted, otherwise-adorned badge owners, it may seem small, but I am quite pleased.

ARAM Top 10

So for a couple of weeks now I’ve been playing nothing but ARAM matches. Here are my top 10 reasons for loving ARAM (and no, it’s not a top 10 ARAM champions list, but that would be a great post, too):

10. There is minimal to no sniping as the fighting is nonstop. You snipe, you die.

9. Matches are fast-paced, frenetic, and typically last a pleasant 20-30 minutes.

8. Less common to be completely annihilated by a team of folks who know the meta game by heart and how to maximize their fave champs to win it. Random rocks.

7. Because many of the players may be rusty or new to the random champion they rolled, folks are generally more kind-hearted. Compassion is a beautiful thing.

6. Support champs are a blast to play in ARAM as your skills are highly valuable and your teammates are almost always close at hand for your buffs and/or healing.

5. Champions that aren’t that remarkable in Classic or even Dominion can suddenly shine. Great examples are Xerath, Pantheon, and Heimerdinger.

4. The cute little bunnies that tell you if someone is hiding in the bush. Just not sure they are actually bunnies….

3.  You are forced, over time, to play all of your champions. I’m actually getting pretty good at many that were dusty from lack of use.

2. Great opportunity to quickly learn a champion’s skill set as the fighting is nonstop. Spam, spam, spam.

1. And did I mention minimal to no sniping? Thank goodness for a venue where you can play without getting cursed at. Usually 😉

Well there you have. Those are my top 10 reasons for loving ARAM.  What are yours?

Quadra Kill Spree

Hopped into an ARAM match and was thrilled that I rolled Morgana. Luv it! The downer was that we lost. Playing against both Zyra and Heimerdinger made it really difficult to push with all the crap they were dropping in lane. But here’s the incredibly amazing part….I scored not just one but two, count ’em two, quadra kills! WOOOOOOT – I luv league XD.

Luv’in ARAM

So despite the length of time since my last post, I have been happily playing League in the rare free moments I have these days (starting your own business is time-consuming!). No grand plans to play Ranked or even Normal. Most days I just can’t muster the focused attention it requires.

My fave moments of late have been duking it out in the All Random All Mid (ARAM) map. Now I have definitely had some pretty crappy games, rolling a melee champ or one that I haven’t played in forever. But I did have an amazing match recently on Lux. Granted we had a near ideal team with 4 ranged champs and Darius. We completely rolled over the enemy team with a total of almost 200 team assists. It rocked!

One of the things I love about ARAM is that it forces me to play champs that I may not have played for a long time or to create new strategies with champs that wouldn’t work (as well or at all) in Classic or Dominion. I rolled Xerath for a match and internally went “uggh” but it ended up being a fabulous match for me, using his Locus of Power on W to root him in place and dish out a devastating Arcanopulse. Even better was when his ult was up and I could follow up three times with his Arcane Barrage. Total fun!

Another bonus is that ARAM is extremely fast-paced like Dominion so that it minimizes and often eliminates any sniping. I did play Taric last night and was rightfully bashed by one player who venomously instructed me to never play Ranked. Hell no I wouldn’t play Ranked with Taric! He is still very much a work in progress for me.

And then the third thing that is a blast with ARAM is that support characters can be a real delight to play. No chasing your carry or finding yourself solo in lane….your allies are always close at hand and any support that can heal is a huge boon given that you cannot heal on your platform.

So once the youngest heads off to preschool I think I will sneak in a match or two!
